Honda Prelude Concept Sneaks into Los Angeles Auto show

  • Honda is showing off its Prelude Concept at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show.
  • The concept previews the Prelude’s return as a hybrid-electric coupe.
  • The previous Honda Prelude was last seen rolling out of a Honda factory in 2001.

If you missed the Japan Mobility Show this year in Tokyo and wanted to see the Honda Prelude Concept, you’re in luck. Honda is showing its hybrid-electric concept coupe at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

Honda dragging its latest concept halfway around the world to show prospective North American customers could mean promising news for its production and arrival in the United States.

We don’t know what will power the Prelude if it hits production, or even what’s powering this concept. Though, Honda has confirmed this Prelude is a hybrid-electric vehicle.

While we don’t know what kind of power unit it will use if it goes into production, we can take hints from Honda’s current hybrid systems.

The hybrid powertrain heading to the upcoming Civic Hybrid will probably be the same as this would-be production Prelude. That means you can expect a 2.0-liter I4 that works with Honda’s hybrid system to make 204 hp in CR-V trim.

The similar hybrid system in the Honda Accord hybrid makes 212 net hp, so there is some wiggle room in the hybrid powertrain performance across nameplates.

Even though this Prelude Concept looks ready for primetime production, you shouldn’t hold your breath. Considering Honda’s track record of showing nearly-production-ready concepts, there’s still a chance this stylish coupe could die on the vine.

With that in mind, if you plan on attending the Los Angeles Auto Show, it might be worth taking a look at this Prelude Concept.

Do you think Honda will build the Prelude? Do you think it will come to America? Tell us your thoughts below.
