Alpine junior Abbi Pulling extended her championship lead during the second weekend of F1 Academy at the Miami Grand Prix.
The all-female single-seater category, in its sophomore campaign, opened in Jeddah back in March, with Miami the second stop of the season, and only round on U.S. soil in 2024.
Pulling, a veteran of W Series and F1 Academy, claimed back-to-back pole positions at the Miami International Autodrome and controlled both races from the front. Mercedes-backed Doriane Pin, who was the fastest of the bunch in Jeddah, had to make do with the runner-up position in Race 1, before claiming third in Race 2, behind McLaren’s Bianca Bustamante.
Haas representative American Chloe Chambers scored a podium in Race 1, courtesy of third, earning herself a maiden podium on home soil.
The other Americans in the field—Williams-backed Lia Block and wildcard Courtney Crone—had a less prosperous weekend, though Block collected her first point of the campaign by creeping into the top 10 in Race 2.
Pulling now leads the standings on 99, with Pin on 65, and Ferrari junior Maya Weug third on 51.
F1 Academy Docuseries Coming
F1 Academy also confirmed during the weekend that Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine company is producing a docuseries covering this year’s series, which will feature behind-the-scenes insight, and highlight the stories of the competitors in F1 Academy. The as-yet-untitled docuseries will launch on Netflix in 2025.
U.K.-based Phillip Horton started covering Grands Prix while still at university and swiftly deemed that writing about Formula 1 and the behind-the-scenes machinations was much more engaging than reading centuries-old novels. Degree gained, he went on to cover the sport full-time from 2014 and is as intrigued and excited by the destinations Formula 1 visits during its lengthy annual world tour as the racing itself. Phillip joined Autoweek in 2021 and while he has just about learned to spell in American English he has yet to find anywhere in America that makes a proper cup of tea.
