2025 Fisker Pear Is an Intriguing Subaru Crosstrek–Sized Affordable Electric SUV

WHAT IT IS Design veteran Henrik Fisker’s inexpensive, Subaru Crosstrek-sized electric SUV.

WHY IT MATTERS If Fisker is going to establish itself as a proper automaker worthy of your attention, it’ll be with the Pear, which is said to stand for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution. This small electric SUV’s pricing means it’ll be the entry point to Fisker’s lineup—and for many buyers their first EV. Remember, Tesla impressed us with the Model S, but the company didn’t reach its full sales strength until it offered the Model 3.

PLATFORM AND POWERTRAIN Fisker’s CEO confirmed the Pear EV will be built on a dedicated steel chassis rather than the Ocean’s platform. Magna Steyr builds the Ocean in Austria, while Foxconn will assemble the Pear at its Lordstown, Ohio, plant.

Fiskler plans to offer two powertrain options. The Pear will come with either a single-motor rear-drive setup with 100-150 miles of range or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive option good for at least 300 miles. The CEO reports the Pear will have a bare-bones interior with almost zero moving parts (no physical buttons or switches), so if you think a Tesla cabin is too minimalist and touchscreen heavy, the entry-level Fisker might be too stripped-down for your liking. The vehicle’s preorder website lists “clever storage solutions,” and the company told us the Pear’s interior will offer more space than comparably sized alternatives. Fisker also boasts something called a “Houdini trunk,” some sort of trick rear tailgate mechanism we suspect could function like the BMW Z1’s disappearing doors.
