The annual Goodwood Festival of Speed is no stranger to crashes and incidents, but this year’s unfortunately may have gotten the crowd a little too close to the action. Video of a classic Jaguar Mk1 sedan drifting on its run shows the vehicle suddenly lose a wheel, which goes bouncing into the attending crowd. The Festival has acknowledged that an incident has occurred, promising updates as they’re available, but Motor1 reports at least one person in the crowd was loaded into an ambulance.
According to Motor1‘s on-site report, at least one older individual was struck by the wheel, but was alert enough to offer a statement to event officials before departing in an ambulance. Their exact condition is unknown as of reporting time. It’s also unclear if anyone else was hit by the wheel; some social media reports claim at least two people were struck but not seriously injured.
Here’s Goodwood’s initial offered statement regarding the incident so far: “An incident has occurred on the hillclimb. Thanks for your patience as we assess the situation and prioritize the wellbeing of the people involved. We’ll provide further updates as soon as we can.” Goodwood followed up with another statement about an hour later: “Following the incident on the hillclimb we’re pleased to confirm that there were no serious injuries and those involved were able to go back to enjoying the event.”
The event was reportedly paused for around 40 minutes before the next vehicle was introduced, and the event appears to continue as planned according to the online livestream.
