The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Pickup Is Getting a Lot Cheaper

What Caused the Price Change?

Ford says there are multiple reasons for the price reduction, including increased plant capacity, scaling production, material costs, and improvements in battery materials. Demand is also a factor; it’s cooled off enough to allow Ford to catch up with its reservations, and it is now on track to allow buyers to spec built-to-order electric trucks as soon as October. The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Rouge, Mich., is also entering its last two weeks of its upgrade shutdown. Once it re-opens, scheduled for July 31, the factory will be able to produce 150,000 Lightnings annually by the beginning of Fall, lining up with Ford’s October timeline for those built-to-order pickups.

The Part You’re Waiting For

How much is a new, 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning EV going to cost you? Well, the Pro trim—the basic work truck trim of the all-EV pickup—has dropped by $9,979 to a new price of $51,990 (it was $61,969). Stepping up to the XLT Standard Range, you’re now looking at $56,990 for the version without the Co-Pilot 360 (a $9,479 decrease) and $61,990 with it (an $8,479 decrease). For more range, the XLT Extended Range with standard Co-Pilot 360 is now $71,990, a decrease of $8,879.

The next level up for the Lightning is the Lariat Standard Range, which is now $71,990 (a $6,979 decrease). Get the larger battery pack for the Lariat Extended Range version for another $7,501 ($79,490), but that’s still $8,479 off its original price. Finally, if you want luxury to come along with your all-electric power, the Platinum Extended Range is still over $90,000, but this new price drops the buy-in by $6,079 and now costs you $93,990.

When you add in that as soon as early next year—according to Ford—the F-150 Lightning will also have access to the Tesla Supercharger network to help ease charger anxiety, the Lightning pickup starts to look like an even better choice for EV pickup buyers. This move by Ford adds in more than 12,000 new chargers the Lightning will be able to hook up for charging across the U.S. and Canada. That’s in addition to the J1772-CCS combo DC Fast Charger networks—that are potentially faster than the Tesla Supercharger network—that already exist and will continue to work with Ford’s all-electric pickup truck.
